I hold
the weight
of this day’s
silence
one more
heavy
offering
to place
upon the
altar
of stones
stacked
high
each still
throbbing
with living
heat
of all that
would be
spoken
if not for the
crushing
severity
of this
sacrifice
I have
required
of me
and I struggle to remember
the why of it.

“...if not for the crushing severity of this sacrifice I have required of me... and I struggle to remember the why of it.” – powerful thought, it spoke volumes to me!
Beautiful. Every word.
"Struggle to remember the why of it"
Seems I am doing this about so many things in life.
Your poems are always a gift.
Holding the weight of silence,
a day's worth or more, becoming
the sacrifice, and forgetting why,
or is it something within you,
that makes you the perfect sacrifice, willing and silent and
always throbbing.
Excellent interior poem.
Jonnia, I was inspired by your work to reply like this. I would say that there is always a price extracted for a promise, though the price is not always so hard to pay.
The Consequence Of My Promise
When I promised love
and honor in your service
I did not know then
I would soon become
an altar upon which you
would place your true stones.
In this way I am
now more than I was as you
add to my essence.
Wow.
I really don't know what else to say. This poem went straight to my heart. Thank you for sharing with us!
You are very talented!
In that this one reflects from everyone or anyone some sacrifice, well, that's a well written poem. I enjoyed it.
We do tend to pile more weight on ourselves methinks than the world demands of us.
A very thought provoking poem
